The following are taken from the preface to Lillywhite’s Cricket Scores and Biographies by Arthur Haygarth (1862).

The Cricketer

The Game of Life; or, Death Among the Cricketers

The Game of Cricket. An Exercise at Merchant Taylor’s School

Cricket Song

Floors Castle Cricketers’ Song

I am afraid I have no familiarity with the tune Dolly Dobbs, but this lyric does work quite well with that of My Old Man’s a Dustman, made famous by the celebrated 1950s skiffle singer, Mr. Lonnie Donegan. The chorus is particularly interesting, a kind of precursor to many of the Eurovision Song Contest entrants, especially that old favourite, boom-bang-a-la-di-dah-tish-tash-tosh.
